On September 15, we will welcome Dr. Douglas Young to share the story of Helen Dortch Longstreet, born in 1863 in Carnesville and died at 99 years of age in Milledgeville. Dortch was the first woman to secure a public office in the state of Georgia.
Dr. Douglas Young is a political science emeritus at the University of North Georgia in addition to being a novelist, essayist, and speaker. He is active in local and national politics, has published widely in newspapers and lecture throughout the county.
