“Providence’s Evening Sky isn’t your typical jazz band, and it isn’t your typical roots music band either. They find a balance between the two styles while at the same time incorporating elements of country, R&B, funk, and soul to create a multi-dimensional sound.” – Rob Duguay, Warwick Beacon
“My first time seeing Evening Sky live and what a treat! Great grooves, (almost) familiar melodies that evoke an intelligent mix of eras and styles, all with great improvisation throughout and almost all original material. I encourage you to go see them live as soon as you can!” – Duke Robillard, world-renowned guitarist
“Evening Sky is hard to pin down. Their sound embraces a heady brew of musical genres. Underling their jazz roots, Evening Sky ventures far and wide. Some songs fit in well with the Americana spirit while others swell with a swampy spark.” – Ralph Beauchamp, My Amp Music
Evening Sky Plus One: Mino Lanzieri is an album 20 years in the making. Guitarist Gino Rosati was stationed in Naples, Italy when he met a young up and coming Neapolitan guitarist named Mino Lanzieri. Their chemistry was immediate and they began playing duo and full band gigs together. After Gino moved back to the states the two remained close and occasionally visited and performed together over the years. Gino invited Mino to the states for a run of shows with the band in late 2024 culminating with a 2-day recording session at Jim Eno’s Public Hi-Fi studios in Providence, RI. The result is a remarkable showcase for both guitarist’s compositions and complimentary playing. With pedal steel guitarist Chris Brooks in the mix, the album crosses the line between modern jazz and expansive Americana.
Evening Sky is a jazz/roots quartet consisting of pedal steel guitar, electric guitar, bass, and drums. This unusual combination gives modern interpretations to jazz, rock, country, and pop tunes as well as soulful and infectious originals that range from atmospheric and contemplative to driving and funky.
The band has a knack for combining the classic elements of American music (jazz, folk, R&B, country) to form a unique, spirited sound. Their rhythmic, smooth, and playful approach has been compared to artists as diverse as Bill Frisell, Bill Withers, Bill Monroe, and Bill Laswell. And that’s just the Bills!
