About this Event

These weekday walks are happening regularly and during the summer months, we take advantage of the longer days with an evening walk. They are based in and around the Peak District. This walk takes us up onto the gritstone edges above the spectacular Chew Valley to bag Alphin Pike trig point.

A 10km loop with around 400m of elevation on mixed terrain but mostly footpaths and trails with some gradual hills to climb. This walk is classed as moderate and suitable for most but some hill walking experience would be preferable.

So whether you're looking to meet other outdoorsy women in the community, get ideas for routes for your own walks or runs, or simply want to inject a good dose of fresh air and views into your week, this walk is for you!

Distance: 6 miles/10km

Level: Easy/Moderate/Challenging: mostly easy trails and footpaths. Some short, steep sections and uneven terrain.

Elevation: 400m/1300ft

Time: approx 4 hours

Who will be your guide?

I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Community, and I’m a Mountain Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you!

Feel free to check out the website: Peak Outdoor Coaching and follow us on Instagram and Facebook: @peakoutdoorcommunity

Transport:

We'll be meeting at Dovestone Car ParkGreenfield, Oldham OL3 7NE Google Maps, which is around £3 to park for 4 hours.

I am always happy to car share from Glossop so do let me know if you're based in the area or need picking up from a nearby train station.

We will meet at 6pm am to leave at 6.15pm.

  • Waterproofs
  • Warm layers
  • Sun hat/sun cream
  • Hat and gloves

Terrain:

Mixed terrain but mostly footpaths and trails with some gradual hills to climb. This walk is classed as moderate and suitable for most but some hill walking experience would be preferable.

Toilets:

There are toilets at the car park but they could be closed by the time we arrive. If you need to go whilst we're walking, I'll point out 'wild wee' spots for us to squat in private!

Safety:

The whole point of our walks is that they are enjoyable and memorable experiences for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let us know your concerns. Please inform us of any medical conditions prior to the walk. Every participant MUST complete a Medical & Disclaimer form a minimum of 24 hours before the event begins. This will be sent via email so please look out for it.

Our leaders are qualified Hill and Moorland and Mountain Leaders and level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so they will be on hand in case of an emergency.

Dogs:

Dogs are more than welcome to come along but please ensure they remain on leads at all times.

Refund Policy*:

Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled (see below). If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let us know if you do so. No swaps to other events.

And FINALLY:

This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
