We are inviting you to be a part of our Evanston Environmental Justice Conversation Series on Saturday, October 4 from 1-3:30 pm at Second Baptist Church in Evanston, IL. We will hear from two great speakers sharing about their important work on environmental justice and beyond! Nia Williams will speak about her work leading the West End Garden, a liberative garden space right here in Evanston, and with Evanston's Black Lives Matter chapter. We will also hear from Candace Simpson about her work interviewing Evanston residents who have lived near the Evanston Waste Transfer Station. Additionally, we will have a community panel moderated by Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors, President of Evanston/North Shore NAACP, who will be joined by Rev. Deborah Scott and Baxter Swilley.The Evanston Environmental Justice Conversation Series (EEJCS) centers the voices of leading Chicagoland environmental justice advocates and provides a consistent, accessible community forum fostering rich conversations between community members, environmental justice advocates, and civic, religious, and academic leaders from the Evanston community and beyond. The series focuses on local and national issues shaping the contemporary struggle for environmental justice.
