The Divide is a collection of realistic fictions set in the Mountain West. The title is a double entendre, referring to the Continental Divide as well as the divide that often challenges our relationships. The stories concern characters making the difficult choices of life; the stakes are high for the characters and therefore for the readers as well; we read onward to find out how the characters will choose.

Evan Morgan Williams is an award-winning story writer. A 2024 Oregon Literary Fellow in Fiction, he has published over seventy-five short stories in literary magazines, including The Kenyon Review, ZYZZYVA, Alaska Quarterly Review, Witness, and The Antioch Review. He has published three earlier collections of short stories: Thorn (2014), winner of the Chandra Prize at BkMk Press, Canyons (2018), and Stories of the New West (2021).


Evan Morgan Williams will be in conversation with:

Maria McLeod, interviewer and associate professor of journalism at Western Washington University, has produced oral histories for Washington state agencies as well as works of documentary theatre for WWU and in collaboration with local nonprofits. Her poetry and prose have been published in prominent literary journals in the U.S., England, Germany, India, and Scotland. She’s been nominated for five Pushcart Prizes and has published two poetry chapbooks, Mother Want, and Skin. Hair. Bones.
