The European Basic Skills Network (EBSN) invites policymakers, practitioners, researchers and other stakeholders to join the EBSN Annual Conference 2026, hosted by NOVA University of Lisbon and taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 17 to 19 June 2026.
Under the theme “Basic Skills for Life, Work and Democratic Participation in Times of Transformation”, the conference will provide a space for exchange on evidence, innovation and actionable approaches that can strengthen adults’ foundational skills for everyday life, labour market adaptation and meaningful participation in democratic societies.
The conference responds to a context shaped by digital and AI-driven change, labour market restructuring, demographic pressures and growing concerns about democratic resilience. It places adult basic skills firmly at the centre and highlights their importance for inclusion, participation and lifelong learning.
The programme will include plenary sessions, parallel sessions and a marketplace, creating opportunities for dialogue between policy, research and practice and for sharing approaches that can be transferred, adapted or scaled.
