Trinidad-born trumpeter, composer, and cultural storyteller Etienne Charles creates music that uncovers overlooked histories and celebrates community memory. Through projects such as San Juan Hill – A New York Story, Gullah Roots, and Carnival: The Sound of a People, Charles transforms archival research into immersive performance, amplifying voices often absent from mainstream history. 

His NAACP Image Award–nominated album Creole Orchestra topped JazzWeek’s 2024 charts, affirming his role as a leading contemporary jazz innovator. Beyond the stage, he mentors emerging artists as Professor of Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, shaping future generations through scholarship and sound.
