Join us for our first ever East Tennessee Hiking & Outdoors group bike ride! Jared of Hike Solo Outdoors will be leading this special event group ride on the Kingsport Greenbelt in Kingsport, TN.This group ride, just like our group hikes, is free of charge. We will meet at the Big Elm Trailhead (3400 Netherland Inn Rd, Kingsport, TN). This is the parking area at the western end of the trail. https://maps.app.goo.gl/4DKabu6d63CjrPJP9
Plan on meeting at 9:30AM and starting the ride no later than 9:45AM.
This ride will feature signs of early spring, wildlife sightings, beautiful scenery including views of the South Holston River and Bays Mountain, and more!
The ride is an out and back ride. Per votes in our group poll, we will plan to do the whole approximately 20 mile trail. I anticipate The ride to take around 2-2.5 hours. Since it's an out and back, participants may turn around at any point and return to the trail head. After the ride anyone who wants to come grab lunch at Mustard Seed Cafe is welcome to join.
Overall this trail is mostly flat with two moderate to difficult hill climbs near the halfway point. Totally fine if you need to walk your bike during this portion of the trail. The whole trail is paved, but there are spots where the pavement is cracked and broken so expect minor bumps. There are also multiple wooden bridges and one very small section where we will need to ride on sidewalks and road. If necessary, we will take breaks throughout the ride. Riders should be aware of their own ability and their bikes ability if joining. While this ride is mostly flat and we will ride at a leisurely to moderate pace, 20 miles is not a short ride. Make sure to do a full check of your bike before partaking in the ride.
Both analog and E-bikes are permitted on this ride, but no mopeds or motor vehicles are allowed on the trail. Make sure you pack appropriate attire. Weather is unpredictable this time of year. Much of the trail is in shade if the leaves are still on the trees. In addition, bring snacks and plenty of water. Children are not recommended for this ride unless in a child-seat or tow behind trailer.
