About the Workshop:

We all know we work according to an ‘ethical framework’ but what does it actually mean to work ethically? What do therapists do when faced with difficult situations, issues and choices? Where do our own moral values fit in our work? And what happens if we get it wrong?

In this practical and interactive workshop we’ll look at the moral values which guide professional therapists, demystify the BACP and NCPS ‘ethical frameworks’ and work through some tricky case studies to build our skills in thinking and working ethically. We’ll look at Equality, Diversity and Inclusion as a particular ethical issue and there will be space for questions and examples from your own training and practice.

We’ll also explore at what happens when things go wrong and how to develop resilience for the messy reality of life that is always part of therapeutic practice.

About the Speaker:

Briony Martin is an integrative psychotherapist, supervisor and educator. She has a private practice in Marlborough, teaches psychology and counselling at The Open University and is studying for a PhD in Psychotherapy focusing on decolonisation and anti-racism in therapy.

Practicalities:

Breaks - There will be one short refreshments break and a lunch break. Free tea & coffee will be available on site, and there are a number of shops and cafes locally that delegates may wish to use during lunch.

Parking - Limited free parking is available on site on a first come first served basis. There are a number of pay as you go car parks locally. The closest is on Prospect Place, 1 minute walk away.

Train/Bus - Willows Training is accessible by local bus routes. The main Swindon bus and rail stations are approx 20 minutes walk away.

Who is this workshop suitable for?

This workshop has been designed as a source of Continued Professional Development (CPD) for Counsellors, Psychotherapists, other mental health professionals, and students undertaking counsellor/psychotherapy training. It may also be helpful for anyone working in a caring, helping or pastoral profession, including Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Youth Workers and Social Workers.
