About this Event
This in-person continuing education training is designed to enhance Marriage and Family Therapists’ clinical competence when working with individuals, couples, and relational systems practicing Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM). As ENM becomes more visible in clinical settings, therapists increasingly encounter clients navigating complex relational agreements, attachment dynamics, and social stigma. However, many clinicians have received limited formal education on ENM-affirming and ethically responsible care.
The course provides foundational knowledge of ENM relationship structures, explores therapist bias and mononormative assumptions, and applies attachment-informed and trauma-informed frameworks to understanding jealousy, insecurity, and relational stressors in ENM systems.
Participants will learn practical assessment strategies related to agreements, consent practices, power dynamics, and communication patterns, and will develop treatment planning approaches that differentiate normative ENM experiences from clinically significant distress. Through lecture, case discussion, and applied exercises, participants will gain tools to provide culturally responsive, ethical, and effective therapy with ENM-identified clients.
6 CEUs are included at completion.
