Last spring we hosted Jana Harris of Essex Forays when we had a virtual presentation exploring fungi and the vital roles it plays in garden ecosystems, now let's take it into the field! We're thrilled to have Jana back, and we're excited to venture into the woods surrounding Norwood Pond in Beverly to explore the relationships between fungi and trees, plants, soil health, and more! We'll identify species up close and personal, learning the factors to observe and consider when making an identification, and discussing the ecological significance of the species we find. With 88 acres of woods and wetland to explore, we can't wait to get out and see what's popping up! Please dress for the weather, with appropriate footwear. Participants may want to bring along a basket to collect specimens.Jana Harris is the owner and founder of Essex Forays, offering guided mushroom walks and lectures. She is a mycology expert certified in Wild Mushroom Food Safety, and she serves as an administrator and on the Grants and Scholarship Committee of Boston Mycological Club. She leads programs for organizations like The Trustees, Essex County Greenbelt Association, Essex National Heritage Area, and Manchester Essex Conservation Trust. She hosts the local access show Fungi Finders, which focuses on the diverse world of mushrooms and other mycological treasures.
