About this Event
Join us on Saturday, May 31st at the historic Eureka Theater for a special edition of our Essential Cinema series. We are wrapping up the Forest Moon Festival and celebrating the 100th birthday of comedy legend Mel Brooks (which happens in June) with a matinee presentation of his intergalactic spoof, Spaceballs.
This is your chance to see Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, John Candy as Barf the Mawg, and the great Rick Moranis as the magnificently mustachioed Dark Helmet. They've gone to plaid, they've wrestled with Pizza the Hutt, and they've given us the immortal line, "What's the matter, Colonel Sandurz? Chicken?" Meanwhile, a princess (Daphne Zuniga) plots her escape from a wedding to the pointy-haired Prince Valium. It is stupid, it is brilliant, it is relentlessly quotable, and it demands to be seen with a crowd that loves the absurd.
Part of our Essential Cinema series. Because some films are not just movies. They are experiences that demand a crowd, a dark theater, and a big screen. Even the stupid ones. Especially the stupid ones.
Doors Open at 2:00 PM
Film Starts at 2:30 PM

About the Film
In a galaxy far, far too familiar, the evil Planet Spaceball has used up all its air, and President Skroob (Mel Brooks) orders Dark Helmet to kidnap Princess Vespa of the neighboring planet Druidia to hold her for ransom. Enter Lone Starr and his trusty sidekick Barf, a pair of intergalactic bums trying to pay off a debt to a gangster named Pizza the Hutt. With the help of a wise old "mog" named Yogurt (also Mel Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz," they race to save the princess, stop the Spaceballs, and discover the true meaning of merchandising.
Come for the raspberry jam. Stay for the 100-year-old punchlines.
Sponsored by the Redwood Coast Energy Authority, and KEET TV.
