Espresso Fundamentals with Hidden Grounds Owner Anand Patel
About this Event
SIX GUESTS. TWO HOURS. ESPRESSO THAT MAKES SENSE.
Good espresso is more than pressing a button. Join Anand Patel, owner of Hidden Grounds Chai & Coffee House, inside our Jersey City training facility for a small-group class built around tasting, adjusting and practicing on professional equipment.
You'll learn a repeatable starting recipe, then see how grind size, dose and yield change the cup. Each guest will dose, tamp, pull and taste shots, make an adjustment, and get individual feedback. The goal is to leave knowing what to try next when a shot tastes too sharp, too bitter or just not quite right.
What we'll practice
- Getting to know the grinder, espresso machine, scale and portafilter
- Setting a dose and target yield, and timing a shot
- Distributing and tamping consistently
- Tasting espresso and recognizing useful differences
- Adjusting the grind and pulling another shot
- Keeping a clean, safe espresso station
This class focuses on the espresso itself. No prior machine experience is needed; home coffee lovers and aspiring baristas are welcome. All coffee and equipment for class are included. You can taste without drinking every full shot.
