Escape Artist Mixtape: Vol. 5, Homeworld:Otherworlds, podcast + zine launch

Join Ulises, in partnership with MythMedia Studios and Painted Bride Art Center, for the launch of Volume 5 of the Escape Artist Mixtape zine and new podcast episode with Mixtape Founder and host Li Sumpter. The night will include an artist talk, refreshments, and music by Rashid Zakat.

The Escape Artist Mixtape podcast is the soundtrack to the “art of survival” in an ever-changing apocalyptic world. Li Sumpter, host and self-proclaimed escape artist, invites a stellar line-up of friends and fellow artists on an epic journey through the stuff science-fiction is made of. Homeworld/Otherworlds is the theme of this 6-episode pilot season exploring the alternate realms and outer limits of everyday reality through the lens of art, pop culture, and afrofuturism. This podcast amplifies the universal language of music through a co-curated playlist spanning genres from afrobeat to trip hop. Every episode, each new guest contributes 3 songs to the playlist creating a sonic guide for lively conversations and an earthly archive made for memories old and new – for this world and beyond.

The Painted Bride is the presenting/co-producing for the Escape Artist Mixtape: Homeworld/Otherworlds in collaboration with MythMedia Studios and the Escape Artist Initiative. An interactive zine companion will feature original art, “B side” content from 6-episode series, and QR codes that connect community to the podcast interviews, audience surveys, and the curated playlist. The podcast/zine launch event will feature programming inspired by the HomeWorld/Otherworlds theme including a live conversation with host Li Sumpter and podcast guests (TBD). Guest artists for the pilot series include Andrea “Philly” Walls, Malkia Okech, Rashid Zakat, Tshay, Pap Souleye Fall, and Shanti Meyers.
