This iconic space of undeniable beauty holds exceptional architectural, historical and social significance. Listed as a Heritage New Zealand Category 1 Historic Place, recognised in the Wellington City Council Heritage List, and recent winner of the Winner of the Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) 2024 Wellington Awards in the heritage category, highlighting the work of Tobin Smith of Common Architecture and Adam Wild of Archifact Architecture & Conservation Heritage.A sentinel of older times, Erskine Chapel is located in the core of the former Erskine college building. After a significant strengthening and restoration programme, the glorious spaces (also including the downstairs grand ballroom, and upstairs nun’s cells) are once again ready to be enjoyed.
Join us for a special 2nd Open Day on Wednesday, 6th November 2024, from 10am to 2pm, designed for those who prefer a quieter experience. This mid-week event is perfect for elderly visitors, local schools, and community organizations, offering a peaceful opportunity to explore the chapel at your own pace, without the craft markets and bustle of our main Open Day.
📍 Location: 31 Avon Street, Island Bay, Wellington
🚗 Parking: Limited parking is available for those with mobility needs. If possible, please park on nearby streets and walk.
Cost: Free of charge, with contributions welcomed for the chapel's ongoing maintenance.
We look forward to welcoming you!
