John Montague of the Buffalo Maritime Center will present an illustrated discussion of the research, planning, construction and launching of the 73' long 44 ton vessel with community volunteers by the Buffalo Maritime Center. He will describe the preparations and plans for the boat's voyage to New York City as part of the 200th Anniversary of the canal's opening. Leaving Buffalo September 24th this fall, the Boat will make 28 stops along the Canal, arriving in New York City where the Boat will lead the Commemoration of the Canal's opening on October 26th.The Buffalo Maritime Center has also just published volume one of THE ERIE CANAL: PERSPECTIVES AT 200 which will be available.
The event is free and refreshments will be served!
Since our ancestors to this Society came through the Erie Canal, remembering and celebrating this engineering marvel is very important!
