Eric Alan Foster is a composer, teacher, and performer based in San Diego and Crestline, California. Although a native of California, he grew up in various parts of the state intermittently between travels abroad; living in Taiwan, Liberia, Brazil, and Bolivia.

His Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara included studies in music composition with Peter Racine Fricker and classical guitar with Turan Kamal. Eric later received a Master of Music degree with an emphasis in guitar performance from San Diego State University where he studied with Celin Romero.

He has written three concertos for guitar and orchestra plus dozens of solo and chamber works. Some of Eric’s compositions for guitar ensemble are published by Les Productions d’Oz in Canada. Solo pieces for guitar are compiled in the CD “Paint the Wind”.The concertos had repeat performances with Eric as soloist in San Diego, Tijuana, Oceanside, and Orange County.

His “Concerto for Guitar and Mariachi Ensemble” premiered at the University of San Diego on December 10, 2024.The Instituto Eduardo Laredo in Cochabamba, Bolivia gave Eric his first teaching position with classes in music theory and guitar. After that he taught at MiraCosta College and the University of San Diego for over thirty years.

Eric has recently focused on promoting his duets and trios with guitar and a variety of instruments. Each piece conveys its own form of expression, forming a distinct musical language. They are stylistically inspired by an eclectic combination of traditional and popular styles.
