Grounded in guitar and cello, his distinctive sound blends folk and Americana with Brazilian influences, shaped by his years living in Rio de Janeiro.
Onstage, he is joined by a rotating ensemble (drums, bass, percussion, trumpet, and violin) that blends folk and jazz improvisation with Brazilian-inspired grooves, performing sets that range from intimate storytelling to full-band peaks. His debut album, Traveling Days and the Universe Parade, is set for release in summer 2026. Recent performance highlights include a featured show at Portland’s The Artichoke and a performance at the Oregon Country Fair (2025).
A recent arrival in the folk scene, Alterman brings a life steeped in professional music. As a cellist, he has performed with symphony orchestras for 15 years, from Rio de Janeiro to Portland, and is a longtime member of Oregon’s Delgani String Quartet. Raised in the musical melting pot of New York City, his wide-ranging path remains a constant thread running through his songwriting.
