ERASE THE STIGMA: WHY THIS EVENT MATTERS
Erase the Stigma is more than an awareness event. It is an opportunity for the Cottonwood and Verde Valley community to come together to talk openly about mental health, addiction, recovery, family wellness, and the resources available to people who are struggling.
Hosted by Steps to Recovery Homes, Erase the Stigma has a long history of bringing community members, behavioral health professionals, recovery organizations, families, educators, first responders, and people with lived experience together in one place. Past events have attracted hundreds of participants and dozens of community agencies and mental health providers.
The purpose is simple: education, connection, understanding, and hope.
Too many people experiencing addiction or mental-health challenges delay seeking help because they are afraid of being judged, misunderstood, or labeled. Families can also feel isolated and unsure of where to turn. Erase the Stigma creates a safe environment for honest conversations and gives people an opportunity to learn about treatment, recovery, prevention, family support, and community resources.
The event also recognizes that addiction and mental health do not exist in isolation. They can affect families, employment, housing, relationships, physical health, and a person's ability to participate fully in their community. Addressing these challenges requires collaboration among healthcare providers, behavioral health professionals, recovery organizations, peer-support programs, housing providers, employers, families, and community members.
By bringing these groups together, Erase the Stigma helps strengthen the network of support available throughout the Verde Valley.
Most importantly, the event sends a message of hope:
Asking for help is a sign of strength. Recovery is possible. Families do not have to face these challenges alone. And our community is stronger when we talk openly, support one another, and connect people with the help they need.
Erase the Stigma is an invitation for the entire community to learn, listen, connect, and become part of the solution.
