OVERVIEWKusadasi is our gateway to ancient Ephesus, a remarkably preserved Roman city and UNESCO World Heritage site. From the Marble Street and Library of Celsus to the Great Theatre, it’s one of the most impressive archaeological areas in the Mediterranean. This event page is an information hub for anyone on our sailing: share tips, ask questions, and post helpful updates for this port.
TIMING
Arrival and all-aboard vary by sailing—check the daily program for exact times. Ephesus lies inland near Selçuk. Plan your round-trip with a generous buffer and aim to be back at the port 60–90 minutes before all-aboard.
GETTING TO EPHESUS
Travel time from the cruise pier to Ephesus is typically 25–35 minutes depending on traffic and your transport. Common options include ship excursions, taxis or private drivers waiting near the terminal, and local minibuses (dolmuş) toward Selçuk with a short transfer or taxi to the site. If hiring a taxi or driver, agree on total price, waiting time, and pickup point before leaving the port.
WHAT TO SEE
Ancient City of Ephesus: highlights include the Library of Celsus façade, Terrace Houses (separate entry; exceptionally preserved mosaics and frescoes), the Great Theatre, Curetes Street, and the Temple of Hadrian. The site can be entered from the Upper Gate or Lower Gate—plan your route so your driver meets you at the opposite end to minimize backtracking. Ephesus Archaeological Museum (Selçuk): additional statues and artifacts from the site. House of the Virgin Mary (nearby on Mount Koressos): a quiet pilgrimage spot; modest dress appreciated. Basilica of St. John and Isa Bey Mosque (Selçuk): worthwhile if time allows.
PRACTICAL TIPS
Expect sun and heat with limited shade—wear a hat, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes for uneven stone streets; carry water. Lines can form at peak times—consider starting early. Terrace Houses require a separate ticket and involve stairs but are a highlight for many. Keep valuables secure in crowds and marketplaces. If visiting religious sites, dress modestly. Always follow ship time rather than local time and leave ample buffer for the return.
SHOPPING AND LOCAL FLAVORS
Kusadasi’s bazaar near the port offers textiles, leather, carpets, spices, and souvenirs; polite bargaining is normal. For food, look for Turkish kebabs, gözleme (savory flatbreads), mezes, fresh seafood, Turkish delight, and strong Turkish coffee. Hydrate well, especially after touring the ruins.
USING THIS EVENT PAGE
Post questions, day-of updates, and observations others can use: transport timings, entry queues, Terrace Houses availability, gate openings, crowd levels, or any schedule changes you notice. Share helpful maps or links if you have them.
Enjoy an unforgettable day exploring Ephesus and Kusadasi—see you back on board! 🛳️
