Entering the Blur is a two-day butoh workshop centered on presence, attention, uncertainty, and the possibilities that emerge when we loosen our attachment to knowing.

What happens when we allow the edges of the body, identity, image, and environment to become less fixed? What becomes possible when we stop trying to immediately name what is happening and instead remain with sensation, imagination, curiosity, and change?

Through guided movement explorations, image-based practices, improvisation, and time for reflection, participants will enter a process of listening to the body differently. We will work with butoh as a practice of transformation, allowing images to act upon the body rather than using the body to illustrate an idea. We will explore the spaces between form and formlessness, self and environment, appearing and disappearing, knowing and not knowing.

This work does not ask participants to arrive with a particular kind of body, dance training, or answer. Instead, we begin with the body that is here. Attention becomes a practice. Curiosity becomes a way of moving. The unknown becomes somewhere we can stay a little longer.

Entering the Blur invites us to return to the body not as a final destination, but as a place from which we can depart.
