About this Event
This is a 4-week series. Signing up for June 2 will register you for all four sessions: June 2, 9, 16, and 23.
Enhancing Self-Care Through Expressive Arts is a closed 4-week experiential workshop series designed to support women in reconnecting with self-care through creativity, embodiment, reflection, and community. Rather than approaching self-care as productivity or performance, this series invites participants to explore it as an ongoing relationship with self, emotions, body, and others.
Grounded in a trauma-informed and resource-oriented framework, the series uses an intermodal expressive arts approach that integrates multiple creative modalities including visual arts, movement, sound, writing, and gentle reflective practices.
No previous art experience is required.
Each session offers a supportive and non-judgmental environment where participants are invited to slow down, notice their internal experiences, and engage with creativity in personally meaningful ways. The workshops emphasize choice, curiosity, and emotional safety, while also fostering connection and community among participants.
Facilitator
Guliz Akkaymak is an Expressive Arts Therapist in Training at The CREATE Institute in Toronto. This workshop is offered as part of her practicum placement at the Women’s Centre of Halton. She brings extensive experience working in community-based, equity-focused settings and has facilitated reflective and creative workshops supporting women, newcomers, and marginalized communities. Guliz works under the clinical supervision of a registered psychotherapist and approaches facilitation with care, clarity, and respect for participants’ autonomy and lived experience.
