2025 Stormwater Seminar Series Kicks Off Aug. 7
Georgetown, Del., – The Sussex Conservation District (SCD), in partnership with the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension (UDCE), is pleased to announce the return of its stormwater seminar series, designed to promote clean water through effective stormwater management and best management practices (BMPs). The three-part series will be held at the Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on select Thursdays.
The seminars provide valuable guidance for homeowners, homeowner associations and industry professionals seeking to improve water quality and protect local waterways. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, stormwater runoff from yards, roads and developed areas is one of the top contributors to water pollution, making education and proactive management essential.
Seminar Schedule:
Enhancement and Funding Opportunities – Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025
John Emerson, University of Delaware turfgrass extension agent, will present on Delaware Minimum Levels of Sustainable Nutrition (DE-MLSN), a modern soil test interpretation method designed to reduce over-fertilization in turfgrass systems. Ben Coverdale and Holly Walker, both with DNREC, will share successful project implementation and discuss funding opportunities, including Chesapeake Bay watershed funding opportunities. Taryn Davidson, with the Delaware Forest Service will present on additional funding assistance programs and provide a tree planting demonstration in preparation for SCD’s Tree for Every Delawarean Initiative (TEDI) giveaway.
Seating is limited and preregistration is highly encouraged. Delaware Nutrient Management credits are pending for these events.
