About this Event

Future of Fusion, Fission and other Advanced Energy Technologies
In this talk, Taylor will explore the global landscape for nuclear fusion and fission technologies, and explore broader themes in the future of energy production and consumption, highlighting some of the most exciting applications for these technologies. This talk will explore the history of the first atomic age, lessons for current developments, state-of-the-art materials and physics that will enable more sustainable energy production and consumption, spin off technologies, and his experiences from the earliest nuclear experiments to his current work to create sustainable supply chains for scaling up advanced energy technologies.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with one of the foremost advocates for nuclear science!

Taylor is a physicist who, at 14, became the youngest person in history to produce nuclear fusion. He has gone on to develop many award-winning technologies in fields including energy production and storage, robotics, materials science, and biology. Taylor directs several interdisciplinary laboratories for fundamental and applied research in nuclear science and is the founder of Prometheus Industries and Talos Materials. He is also involved in efforts related to defense, space exploration, and science-driven public policy both in the United States and around the globe, and works to infuse a curiosity for science, technology and the natural world into popular culture, through outlets such as TED and NOVA, as well as . Taylor is the subject of the biography The Boy Who Played with Fusion (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2015), written by author Tom Clynes, and an untitled biopic in development at 20th Century Fox, to be directed by Jeff Nichols.

This talk is part of a series designed to bring together leading researchers across disciplines in science, engineering and business to advance understanding of solutions-focused topics relating to climate and energy.

Parking is available in the Brian Whalen Parking Complex (on Virgina Street near Lawlor).
