End of Life Doulas

Walking alongside someone at the end of life is an honor and a privilege. In this presentation, the End-of-Life doulas will share their stories, the heart behind their work, and the unique ways they support individuals and families as well as what a doula is. We’ll also introduce the End-of-Life Doula Collaborative and the role we play in supporting our community. The presentation will highlight community death care and the ways the Collaborative provides it.
Presenters: Darla Makela and Tina Thomas

Darla Makela is the founder of Extended Love and an end-of-life doula with a special passion for supporting individuals living with dementia and the families who care for them. Through her work with both Extended Love and the End-of-Life Doula Collaborative, she helps provide compassionate support, education, and guidance surrounding caregiving, aging, grief, and end of life care.

Tina Thomas - For more than 14 years as a Hospice RN and 5 years as an End-of-Life Doula, Tina Thomas has walked beside countless individuals at the threshold of life’s final transition, meeting each person with skill, tenderness, and compassion. By inviting honest conversations about death and dying, Tina helps bring this venerated passage back into the light. She focuses on end-of-life education and sacred transformational rituals and also serves as a funeral celebrant.
