Engaging with Afro-Caribbean music is a lively cultural experience that mirrors the fusion of African, European, and indigenous elements that have influenced the Caribbean. Renowned artists like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mongo Santamaria, and Tito Puente have each brought distinctive styles and innovations, leaving a profound mark on music.
Antonio Carlos Jobim was a pivotal figure in the development of Bossa Nova, integrating Afro-Caribbean music with a poetic quality. Mongo Santamaria influenced Latin jazz by combining Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz improvisation, highlighting his percussion skills, particularly on the congas, to produce dynamic grooves. Tito Puente, known as the "King of Latin Music," made major contributions to salsa and mambo, enchanting audiences with his vibrant performances.
