About this Event
We'll be meeting at the Golden Hind in Copnor Road on Friday 24th January at 7pm.
Those who attend will not be pressured to purchase anything from the menu, however it is encouraged to attend to enjoy some food and drink with others and perhaps discuss how the pub could be made more accessible for everyone attending, either for those who have restricted mobility, eyesight or have poor hearing.
The pub has an extensive range of small plates, main dishes, pies, burgers, grill dishes, sides and desserts to choose from. If you get thirsty, the pub has you covered with a wide selection of drinks.
The second hour will consist of playing games of pool (if available), there is an extra charge for this.
Please remember, there will be no member of staff from 9pm onwards. A declaration will need to be signed on arrival to agree to this, either by the attendee or parent/carer. A copy of this declaration is detailed below for your information.
Attendees have the choice to stay independently to enjoy the pub after 9pm or a parent/carer can join them when the activity will be unstaffed. Alternatively, the service user can make their own arrangements to leave the activity at this time. Enable Ability staff can only facilitate the session in a safe and supportive environment, we cannot provide individual support. If you feel your service user needs support throughout the session, parents and carers are invited to the entire session to support the individual.
Please consider, the purpose of this group is to flex your ability of being independent and living an independent adult lifestyle.
Legal Declaration
Service User Agreement for Enable Ability Activities
This declaration outlines the terms and conditions for service users aged 25 and over with disabilities who participate in activities organised by Enable Ability.
1. Purpose of Activities
The primary purpose of these activities is to foster and embrace independence for service users in a safe and supportive environment.
2. Responsibility Statement
Enable Ability shall not be held responsible for the service user after the agreed set time of the activity, regardless of any incidents, including but not limited to accidents or injuries. It is the responsibility of parents, carers, or the service user to ensure appropriate arrangements are in place for the service user’s safety outside of the agreed activity time.
3. Parental/Carer Involvement
Parents or carers have the right to make the following choices regarding their involvement:
• Allow the service user to stay at the activity alone to encourage their independence.
• Collect the service user from the activity at the agreed time.
• Join the service user during the activity.
• Be on call during the activity to respond in the event of an emergency.
4. Consent to Participate
If a service user is unable to sign on their own behalf, their parent or carer may sign this declaration on their behalf, indicating their agreement with these terms.
By signing this declaration, the undersigned acknowledges and agrees to the terms outlined above, releasing Enable Ability from any liability beyond the agreed activity duration.
The purpose of this project is giving adults with disabilities the freedom to be fully independent without support and care from charity staff. Clients will be able to drink alcohol, smoke and vape whilst at activities if they wish. The charity would simply be facilitating the social meet ups.
The charity wouldn’t endorse activities such as smoking/vaping and will be encouraging everyone to drink responsibly when with us. Any challenging behaviour shown towards staff, other service users and/or members of the public will not be invited back.
