Empowerment Through Support: Conquer Substance Abuse and Addiction
Hosted by Swoboda Deaf Center and the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD)
"Empowerment Through Support” is a culturally responsive, trauma‑informed workshop designed to address substance use and addiction within the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind communities. This program centers the lived experiences of DHH individuals by integrating ASL‑accessible education, identity‑affirming clinical strategies, and barrier‑reducing approaches that honor language, culture, and community values.
This training is designed for clinicians, interpreters, service providers, community members, and anyone seeking to strengthen their understanding of substance use within the DHH community through a culturally grounded lens. This workshop will be conducted both in ASL and Spoken English.
