Training Description
The 2023 North Carolina Healthcare Needs Survey revealed that substance misuse and mental health are the top two urgent healthcare priorities in the state—ranking above cancer, asthma, and obesity. Nearly 85% of individuals struggling with substance misuse also face co-occurring mental health challenges, yet these conditions often go undiagnosed or undertreated. Importantly, 76% of adults experiencing these issues maintain full-time employment, meaning the impact of co-occurring disorders is felt across every dimension of an organization’s operations, culture, and overall health.
In today’s post-COVID landscape, where personal and professional boundaries are increasingly blurred, organizations have a unique opportunity—and responsibility—to address these challenges proactively. The workplace can serve as a critical point of contact for early identification, support, and intervention. By fostering a recovery-supportive environment, employers can reduce stigma, support treatment and long-term recovery, enhance employee engagement, and improve organizational performance.
In this session, behavioral health expert Ward Blanchard will examine the current state of co-occurring disorders in the workplace, challenge conventional thinking, and provide actionable strategies to create a workplace culture that prioritizes employee wellbeing while strengthening the bottom line.
