The Empowering Women of Color Open Mic is back at La Peña for this 2024 Fall Season! Join us for an evening filled with live music, powerful performances, captivating spoken word, radical storytelling, and much more.This Open Mic event serves as a sacred space to celebrate the diverse voices of women* of color, highlighting the beauty of our cultural diversity. We warmly welcome all who connect with and experience life through the lens of womanhood—whether through body, spirit, identity, or lived experience—past, present, future, and fluid.

We invite women* of color to share their talents in a 5-minute slot. Whether you're a first-time performer or a seasoned artist, this is your space to express your truth. Priority will be given to those whose work aligns with the values of our open mic.

This open mic intentionally centers the experiences, voices, and bodies of women* of color. Come and be part of an inspiring community rooted in Black feminism, radical storytelling, and the celebration of women’s experiences. See you there!
* We use 'women' as a term that embraces all who experience or connect with womanhood, whether through identity, spirit, or lived experience—past, present, future, and fluid—while honoring the diverse ways that gender may be experienced, including by trans, non-binary, and genderqueer individuals.
✨ Getting to La Peña
There are a few ways to get to La Peña! Free neighborhood street parking is available. The 18 bus line stops right across the street at the Shattuck Ave. and Woolsey St. stop, and Ashby BART station is just 2 blocks away. Convenient bike racks are located right in front of our center. Our venue is wheelchair accessible, with a stepless entry and wide entryways.
🔸 Paid Parking: The nearest paid parking is at the Ashby BART station, just a short walk from our venue.
Restrooms: Our restrooms are all-gender and wheelchair accessible.
🔸 COVID-19 Guidelines: Masks are strongly encouraged! If you are feeling unwell, please help protect our community by staying home.
🔸 Events for All Ages: Most of our events are family-friendly. Check individual event descriptions for specific age recommendations.
🔸 Food & Drinks: Light refreshments are often available during events, and we have Los Cilantros Mexican Restaurant open during our events for our guests looking to grab a bite before, during, or after our events.
