Employers and Fragile Neighborhoods

CivicCon invites local business leaders, business owners and employers to a special workshop with Seth Kaplan, a leading expert on fragile states and author of Fragile Neighborhoods. This interactive session will explore the growing breakdown of American communities and what local businesses can do to help reverse it.

Kaplan’s work highlights the critical role that strong local institutions and social ties play in helping communities thrive. Businesses are central to this effort, often serving as anchors of economic opportunity, trusted gathering places and key partners in strengthening neighborhoods from the ground up.

This small group workshop is designed as a shared learning experience. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the real challenges they are seeing in their workplaces and communities and explore practical strategies for building stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.

Seth Kaplan will also be delivering a free public CivicCon presentation in Pensacola on Tuesday, April 14 (Register for that here). This session offers a more focused setting for business leaders to engage directly with the ideas from Fragile Neighborhoods and apply them to their work.

Seth Kaplan is a leading expert on fragile states. He is a professional lecturer in the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at Johns Hopkins University, senior advisor for the Institute for Integrated Transitions (IFTT), and consultant to multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, U.S. State Department, U.S. Agency for International Development, and OECD, as well as developing country governments and NGOs.
