Emerging Strategies to Preserve Unsubsidized Affordable Rental Housing

Unsubsidized naturally occurring affordable housing, also called NOAH, comprises 70% of the affordable rental stock. Rising prices in higher-cost markets and deferred maintenance in lower-cost markets are both driving the loss of this stock, which intensifies affordable housing pressures nationwide. This has spurred local efforts across the country to develop strategies to preserve this essential component of affordable housing supply - yet effective preservation strategies must be tailored to meet the unique context of diverse and highly localized market conditions.

In partnership with the Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) and the Real Estate Center at DePaul University, the Preservation Compact presents National Conversations, Local Best Practices: Emerging Strategies to Preserve Unsubsidized Affordable Rental Housing.
