Emergence - A Contact Improvisation Practitioners Exchange

How do we cultivate attention beyond the duet? How do we dance with the space at large? What qualities of attention support emergent phenomena?
Emergence is a three-day, peer-led exchange for experienced Contact Improvisation practitioners and teachers to explore the intersections of collective attention, composition, and improvisation.
Held between jam and laboratory, the gathering creates space for embodied research, collective improvisation, and shared discourse. We come together not to follow a predetermined method, but to bring our questions, practices, and perspectives into a common field of inquiry.
What happens when our attention extends beyond our immediate partner? How do we sense and respond to the shifting relationships between bodies, space, and the collective? What conditions allow compositions to emerge, and how might our individual choices influence the unfolding of a larger whole?
Through shared movement inquiries, experimentation, and reflection, we will investigate how we attend, relate, and compose together. Each participant brings their experience and curiosity to the exchange, contributing to a process shaped by the group and by what emerges in the moment.
Emergence is an invitation to deepen our practice, challenge our habitual ways of attending, and explore the possibilities of dancing as a collective intelligence.
