Emeralds of Sardegna5-day tour by air
Wednesday 19 to Sunday 23 February 2025
We are pleased to launch another date for our popular Emeralds of Sardegna 5-day tour by air.
Sardegna (Sardinia in English) is the second largest island in the Mediterranean, second only to Sicily and slightly larger than Cyprus. It is located just 80 minutes flight from Malta.
The island is very sparsely populated with a population of around 1.6 million persons inhabiting its 24,000 square kilometres, resulting in a population density of 67 persons per square kilometer, compared to Sicily’s 190 and Malta’s 1380.
We have been mesmerised by the beauty of this wonderful island, which oozes a particular unique Mediterranean feeling with its wide range of beautiful locations, ranging from imposing mountains, remote mountain villages, pre-historic settlements, seaside towns, beautiful countryside, wine regions and more.
When it comes to food, Sardegna is also a celebration. Our Sardinian expedition will surely reveal much more than the staple Vermentino wines and the world-renowned Pecorino cheese with which one normally associates this Italian region.
Our 5-day tour to Sardegna promises to be a wonderful short break which we are sure you will thoroughly enjoy.
Visiting:
Oristano, Cagliari, Orgosolo, Olbia, Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo, Berchidda, Alghero, Bosa, Barumini

Thursday 20 February 2025
Buffet breakfast at the Hotel followed by check out from our hotel. We will proceed to visit the historical centre of Oristano. Here we will explore the narrow streets of the medieval historical centre, leading to the elegant Piazza Eleonora d’Arborea and proceeding to the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta and the Mariano tower. Free time, including free time for lunch (not included in tour price) in Oristano. Departure at around 2:30pm towards the Barbagia mountains. We will arrive at the mountain village of Orgosolo at around 4:00pm where we will proceed to our Hotel for check in and allocation of rooms. Free time in Orgosolo, which is renowned for its murals - referred to as “murales” - which are found practically at every street corner of this mountain village. Each one with its own style, the murals of Orgosolo tell the story of an always lively intellectual unrest and a culturally fervent territory that is always rebellious and politically active. This town offers glimpses of an ancient, timeless Sardegna, surrounded by lush and unspoilt nature. In every house, on every wall, there is a mural. A leisurely stroll through the village streets will see you silently reading and sharing the emotions frescoed on the stone walls. Dinner at the hotel at around 8:00pm.
Friday 21 February 2025
Buffet breakfast at the Hotel followed by check out from our hotel. Departure at 9:00am towards Olbia. Our journey will allow us to savour the beauty of the wild and untouched Sardinian mountain landscape. Late morning arrival in Olbia, which is the gateway to the Costa Smeralda. Here we will visit the pretty historical centre of this seaside town, where we will also have free time for lunch. Departure at around 2:00pm towards the panoramic Costa Smeralda coast, where we will visit the two seaside towns of Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo. Free time for a coffee and a stroll in Porto Rotondo. Departure at around 5:00pm towards the Vermentino wine region, arriving in the little town of Berchidda, located among the sprawling vineyards, at around 6:15pm. Saturday 22 February 2025
Buffet breakfast at the Hotel followed by check out from our hotel. Departure around 8:30am to Alghero, arriving there at around 10:30am. The feeling you get when you arrive in Alghero is that you are in Spain. In fact the locals here speak in a local language which is based on Catalan and Aragonese and the street names are in both Catalan-Aragonese as also in Italian. The original name of Alghero is L’Alguerium (or L’Alguer in Catalan). The name referred to an algae that was regularly found on the coast. The city was founded in the 11th century by the Genoese. Back then it was nothing more than a fishing village. Its strategic position immediately attracted other people. The Pisans were the first to come, and ruled for a short period of time. In 1353 the Catalans arrived in Alghero, and locals were forced to move to the nearby Villanova Monteleone. In 1720 the city fell to the Savoy. As a result, the town is a hotch-potch of various Mediterranean cultures. We will explore the historical centre of this pretty town, including the imposing bastions, the Piazza Civica, the St Francis monumental complex, the winding alleyways and the various watchtowers. Free time for lunch in Alghero. After lunch, we will take the panoramic road to Bosa. This is considered to be one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Sardegna. Arrival at around 3pm in the beautiful village of Bosa, which is listed as one of the Borghi piu’ Belli d’Italia. The town is dominated by the Castle which is perched on top of the hill with views over the river which passes from the centre of the village. The multi-coloured house facades contribute to the serenity and beauty of this town. We will explore the pretty historical centre together and also have some free time to enjoy a drink in one of the many typical bars. Departure at around 6pm towards Oristano, arriving there at around 7:15pm. Check in at our hotel, followed by Dinner at the hotel at 8:30pm.
Sunday 23 February 2025
Buffet breakfast at the Hotel followed by check out from our hotel. Departure at 8:30am towards Barumini, arriving there at around 9:30am. Here we will visit the famous Su Nuraxi pre-historical complex (entrance included in tour price), which is the most important UNESCO World Heritage site in Sardegna. During the Bronze Age, roughly around 2000 years BC, a special type of defensive structure known as nuraghi (for which no parallel exists anywhere else in the world) developed on the island of Sardegna. The complex consists of circular defensive towers in the form of truncated cones built of dressed stone, with corbel-vaulted internal chambers. The complex at Barumini, which was extended and reinforced in the first half of the 1st millennium under Carthaginian pressure, is the finest and most complete example of this remarkable form of prehistoric architecture. Departure towards the airport at around 11:15am, arriving there at around 12:15pm, in time for check in and embarkation on Ryanair flight FR7049 departing at 2:00pm arriving in Malta at 3:20pm.
