About this Event
Supervised Practise and Networking Day
An opportunity for local EMDR therapists to connect, support and share techniques and ideas in their practice. In addition, the three workshops go through the core skills, resources and knowledge necessary in EMDR, as well as experiences with teenagers, using the Standard EMDR protocol.
Presentation 1 - 'Resources in EMDR' with Maria Fragkou
Maria is an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and IFS therapist, and a clinical supervisor. She has over 15 years of experience in the NHS and in private practice, working with people with PTSD and complex trauma.
- This presentation provides an outline of the role of resource development in EMDR.
- The presentation reviews when and why resourcing is needed, and it discusses considerations for clients who may have adverse reactions to installation of certain resources.
- The content includes common internal and external resources, and how to use bilateral stimulation to develop and strengthen calming, empowering and comforting experiences, orient the client to the present, and reinforce positive states. It also covers ways to use resources in preparation phase, in-between sessions and integrate resources during reprocessing.
- Participants will have the opportunity to practice resource development and installation.
Presentation 2 - 'Integrating EMDR with your core training' with Vicky Cuming
Vicky is an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, Humanistic therapist and DIT (Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist) and has recently completed Clinical Supervision training. She has 16 years of experience as a therapist. Previously she worked in the Humanitarian aid sector and had children. She has particular interests in how we hold conflicting ideas simultaneously, emergent behaviour, chaos and it's relationship with creativity.
Vicky will describe how she integrates her core training and other theories into an EMDR way of working, focussing on the areas of;
- formulation
- resourcing
- interweaves
- the therapeutic relationship
- There will be a practical session for participants to think about how they integrate their core training and other models into the 8 phases of the EMDR protocol.
Presentation 3 - 'Experience of using EMDR with Teenagers' with Dr Ruth Henderson
Ruth is a Chartered and HSPC Registered Counselling Psychologist and EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and has completed the Child & Adolescent training. Ruth has over 20 years experience as a therapist. She also is an active EMDR Sussex Board member since 2018.
- Ruth will emphasise the importance of using the 8-phases of EMDR to enable the adaptive information processing of trauma towards a healthy resolution. She will also present a case study where EMDR has been successful.
Lunch will be included.
The later afternoon will include a panel discussion with consultants and presenters, so please consider sending questions in advance to the EMDR Sussex email account.
There will be many opportunities to network with other EMDR therapists!
- In order to attend this workshop, you need to have completed a minimum of Part 1 of EMDR training
