EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy approach that has gained significant recognition for its effectiveness in treating various mental health conditions, particularly trauma-related disorders. This continuing education unit provides an introduction to EMDR, covering its theoretical foundations, therapeutic techniques, and clinical applications. Participants will gain an understanding of the underlying principles of EMDR, its practical skills, and resources for training and certification.

About the Presenter:

Fatima Banister, LCSW, MPA is a certified EMDR womanist therapist who offers 1:1 therapy, supervision, and business coaching to emerging service-based entrepreneurs. She also trains agencies and nonprofits on a variety of mental health-related topics and cultural humility.

She is the founder of Sis Heal Yourself® a digital platform for Black women on their healing journeys. In 2023, Fatima co-founded The Womanist Collective, a community for Black female therapists.
Fatima is also an adjunct professor in the School of Social Work at Nazareth University on the undergraduate and graduate level teaching courses like Cultural Humility, Cultural Diversity, and Introduction to Trauma.
Fatima's community efforts include being a board member at Jewish Family Services in Rochester, NY. She currently co-facilitates a support group for women of color diagnosed with breast cancer at the Breast Cancer Coalition, is part of the Community Counseling Circle at the Interdenominational Health Ministries Coalition, and a restorative counselor and facilitator at Breathe Deep, Inc.
Fatima is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and is married to her husband Rev. Ethan Banister. They are parents to a beautiful daughter who is five years old.
