Join artist Jess Blauwkamp for a two-part embroidery journaling workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Wednesday, Jan 29 from 6 - 8 p.m. This unique workshop will explore the medium of embroidery as a form of personal narrative and self-expression.
Embroidery journaling is a novel way to reflect on special events or phases of life through the art of stitching. Participants will have the opportunity to create a miniature embroidery journal based on their favorite memories, books, or time periods in their life. The workshop will equip participants with basic embroidery techniques, including backstitch, whipped backstitch, satin stitch, French knots, and chain stitch. The second part of the workshop will focus on arranging words and icons to reflect a theme chosen by the participant.
Jess Blauwkamp has been an embroidery artist since 2020, discovering her knack for embroidery during the pandemic. Her ability to embroider surpassed her drawing skills, leading to a shift from hobby to passion. Jess enjoys sharing her embroidery projects on social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok, and she was a finalist in ArtPrize 2023 with her Great Lakes Embroidery Series.
The workshop is priced at $50 for LACA members and $60 for non-members and includes all supplies. To register, visit ludingtonartscenter.org or call 231-845-2787.
