About this Event
Embracing Intersectionality in STEM Education Through Universal Design for Learning
Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Landmark College
Join Christin Monroe for an interactive webinar exploring the Universal Design for Learning Guideline, Welcoming Interests and Identities (7). This session explores the new UDL 3.0 framework by emphasizing the "who" of learning by authentically integrating diverse identities and perspectives into STEM education. Higher education classrooms often overlook the intersectionality of learners’ experiences, particularly for students with disabilities. This workshop addresses this gap through the lens of Universal Design for Learning, providing practical strategies to create more inclusive and empowering learning environments. A centerpiece of this session is the use of an interview of a counterstereotypical scientist with a physical disability who shares her journey, scientific contributions, and strategies for resilience. Participants will learn how showcasing diverse STEM role models fosters advocacy, strengthens student self-identity, and builds persistence.
