EmbraceRace Foundations Course, WI 2025: Color-brave Caregiver Framework

How do I raise a thoughtful, informed, and brave about race child? What should I say, what do I do, and what roles should I play as a parent, as an educator, or as someone who plays a meaningful role in the life of a child?

Join us for a 5-session Foundations training course during the winter of 2025 (January - March) on the topic "The Color-brave Caregiving Framework". Together, we will discuss the differences between color-blind and color-brave caregiving, explore EmbraceRace's framework and roles for caregivers, and implement practices from the framework. Pre-work materials and reflection questions will be provided. The course consists of five 90-min group sessions, meeting every other week.

We hold these training classes in race-based affinity groups to provide psychologically supportive spaces for folks with similarly lived experiences, as racially marginalized or racially privileged. EmbraceRace is committed to providing spaces that center people of color and providing spaces for White folks to educate each other on racial issues, informed by the wealth of labor that people of color have already done to provide resources, information, and guidance.

Course Offerings

As part of registration, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join. In light of what has been shared above, please pay careful attention to the group options below to determine which group is right for you:

Caregivers of Color Affinity Groups:

• Monday evenings, from 7-8:30pm ET / 4-5:30pm PT on Jan 27, Feb 10, Feb 24, Mar 10, & Mar 24. This class will be led by Brittany Del Rosario. Brittany identifies as Latina and has a background as a classroom teacher, DEI curriculum development, & facilitation work.
• Thursday daytimes, from 1-2:30pm ET / 10-11:30am PT on Thursday evenings, from 9-10:30pm ET / 6-7:30pm PT on Jan 30, Feb 13, Feb 27, Mar 13, & Mar 27. This class will be led by Brittany Del Rosario. Brittany identifies as Latina and has a background as a classroom teacher, DEI curriculum development, & facilitation work.
• Thursday evenings, from 9-10:30pm ET / 6-7:30pm PT on Jan 30, Feb 13, Feb 27, Mar 13, & Mar 27. This class will be led by Mirna Meija. Mirna identifies as Latina, from El Salvador. Mirna's work has been in diversity, equity, and inclusion, focusing on anti-bias education and bullying prevention programs.

White Caregivers Affinity Groups:

• Thursday evenings, from 8-9:30pm ET / 5-6:30pm PT on Jan 30, Feb 13, Feb 20 **this date is offset from every other week due to scheduling needs, Mar 13, & Mar 27. This class will be led by Darcy Heath. Darcy identifies as White and has a background in early childhood education as a classroom teacher, professional coach, and organizational consultant.
• Friday daytimes, from 1-2:30pm ET / 10-11:30am PT on Jan 31, Feb 14, Feb 28, Mar 14, & Mar 28. This class will be led by Andrea Huang. Andrea identifies as Asian American and is the Community Building Manager at EmbraceRace, where she oversees EmbraceRace programming.
