About this Event
Come experience ecosystem fluxes and reimagine the infinite interconnections and transformation that sustain life on Earth.
FLUXNET is an international network of over 500 flux towers around the world that Earth system scientists use to monitor and study the movement and cycling of water, carbon and energy between ecosystems and the atmosphere - the towers are tracking the Biosphere’s breath.
ART invited artists and scientists to collaborate during a one-year residency to engage in creative inquiry about ecosystem fluxes. Join us at the Alembic for a special art opening showcasing works-in-progress from selected art-science partnerships including:
- A laser-cut sculpture combined with generative light simulations that invites us to breathe with Tara, cultivate compassion and deepen our experience of interdependence in nature by David Glowacki (Santiago et Compostella, Spain)
- A video installation that explores ecological cycles through color data and lens-based technologies, offering a dynamic and expansive visual examination of changing landscapes by Julia Oldham (Eugene, OR)
- Imaginal meditations that guide people into embodying ecosystem fluxes and dissolving their boundaries with the infinity of nature by Rosa Lewis (Amsterdam, Netherlands)
- Ecosystem data-viz mandalas that represent the radiant giving and receiving of living soils and plants interacting with climate by Maoya Bassiouni (Oakland, CA)
