Embodied Conversations Listening Sessions

Inspired by Lorraine O’Grady’s Art Is… series, currently on view at Griffin, Aladé creates a listening session/room, that responds to her idea that art is as much a revelatory experience as an everyday one. In her series, O’Grady turned the frame onto the viewer and showcased that art lives within her community and on the streets as much as it does in a gallery and on the walls. For this listening session, participants will be inspired by the same premise, turning speakers onto the listeners to explore the idea that we are all collectors.

Aladé will encourage participants to bring a piece of music that responds to select works from the show. Listeners will then have the opportunity to share their music with the group and hear it played on a hi-fi soundsystem in collaboration with Space Lab. Aladé notes, “Listeners will also have the chance to reveal to the group the story of how the music came into their life and how for them it responds to the artworks.”

Listeners are encouraged to bring music to share but are not required to.
