How can we use Somatic tools to support clients in uncovering emotions and resolving issues of shame and anxiety?
About this Event

With careful tracking of client affect and behaviors we can help them to uncover the hidden emotions and issues behind the shame and anxiety they carry through their days. The distress they feel when addressing these emotions can be overwhelming, so therapist skills of co-regulation are critical. Holding space for these feelings and uncovering their deepest roots is powerful work we can do if we understand how mind and physiology are united, and have the skills to navigate and co-regulate with our clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • You will learn how emotions and distress make themselves known in our bodies, and learn some skills for tracking client affect and behavior to identify them.
  • You will learn common patterns that result from the connections between mind and physiology, and some ways to respond to those patterns.
  • You will learn some of the ways that life’s large and small traumas can lead to anxiety and shame, and how to uncover and allow the damage beneath them to start to heal.
