Come together and celebrate!
Date: Sunday, July 26th, 2026
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
All are welcome to this joyful commemoration of the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act held in partnership with the London Black Heritage Council and W.E.A.N. Community Centre. Join our celebration of local Black community, history and culture!
Check out these highlights of the day:
-FREE admission!
-Free bus rides from the Argyle Mall LTC Hub to Fanshawe Pioneer Village during event hours.
-A special presentation by historian Dr. Natasha Henry-Dixon titled “Proclaiming liberty throughout all the land:” Emancipation Day Commemorations in Canada.
-A parade around the Village featuring the Bahamas Junkanoo Legends.
-MC’ing and kids’ activities presented by Saidat.
-DJ’ing by Kerwin Garner.
-A spoken word performance by Fitzroy Dixon.
-Poetry readings by the finalists in the Emancipation Day Poetry Contest organized by Antler River Poetry, as well as the announcement of the winners.
-Booths from local Black-owned businesses and community organizations.
-Displays by visiting museums and history projects sharing Black history from their region / research area
-Food vendors.
