The 39 Steps is the fast-paced, Tony and Olivier Award-winning comedy thriller adapted by Patrick Barlow from the 1915 novel by John Buchan and the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock. It is a theatrical parody that blends a "masterpiece" spy thriller with the style of Monty Python, often described as a "dizzy delight" and a "joyride" of theatrical invention.
A love letter to Hitchcock's films, the play is packed with references to movies like North by Northwest, Rear Window and others. Four actors take on multiple roles on a bare-bones set to recreate the classic film noir genre in hilarious style.
