About this Event
Travel with our experienced tour guides through the fabulous Buda Hills, using many modes of unusual transport, alongside some gentle hiking, to see some of the most breathtaking views of Budapest and the surrounding countryside.
Travel on the stylish cogwheel railway founded in 1886 and on the heritage and classic carriages on this vintage line through the Svábhegy, a popular recreation destination for writers, actors, and artists, with stunning villas and the area is popular with hikers.
We hop onto the children's railway, a stunning 11km ride on a miniature train that is run by children, through the countryside, to Szépjuhászné and the Budaszentlőrinc Pauline Monastery. Learn about monastic life and Hungary's golden medieval period, how in 1527, after the battle of Mohacs the monastery fell victim to Ottoman destruction. Explore the surrounding gardens of the National Forestry Association.
Before boarding the train again to hurtle through a twisted tunnel, to visit the children's railway museum, and then explore the train yard where the children work to repair the trains. You will then hike to two different soldiers' graves located in the forests and explore an old war bunker.
Later we take the train and then walk through the Frog Pod (Béka-Tó) Nature Reserve to the János-hegyi Kilátóterasz observation deck, where you watch birds and take photos of the stunning views of the city and country.
We then walk up to the Elizabeth lookout tower, which is dedicated to our much loved and much appreciated Princess Sisi, where we stop for refreshments* and learn about the history of the tower and princess.
We then descend through the Emléktábla Memorial Park, down to the unusual 18-meter-long double-entrance cave (Atjáró-barlang).
Then take a 20-minute floating ride down the hill on the longest chair lift in Eastern Central Europe, traveling over some of the most desirable properties in Budapest.
