About this Event
We warmly invite you to experience Mendelssohn’s Elijah, presented by the Rackham Choir in collaboration with the Wayne State University Department of Music. Our voices will unite in a majestic story of justice and hope, brought to life by five soloists, including renowned baritone Jonathan Lasch in the title role, a powerful choir of over 130 singers, a full orchestra, and the magnificent sound of Hartford Memorial pipe organ - all under the baton of Dr. Brandon Waddles.
Composed by Mendelssohn in 1846, Elijah reflects our commitment to works that resonate across cultures and traditions. With timeless themes of resilience, hope, and faith, the piece offers a journey through universal human emotions and spiritual struggle. This masterwork allows our choir to explore a rich tapestry of sound, linking us to both the historical roots of the music and the unique experiences within our diverse community.
More than just a performance, this concert is a celebration of unity and shared purpose. Elijah calls us to consider social justice, ethical leadership, and community solidarity - values that echo strongly today. With its powerful solos and themes of communal resilience, Elijah invites inspiration and courage, showing how music can be a bridge that brings us closer together.
