The Duncan McClellan Gallery is pleased to welcome back acclaimed glass artist Eli Cecil for a striking new solo exhibition. Cecil, who first joined the gallery as an Emerging Artist Resident in 2018, returns with a focused and signature body of work shaped by that transformative experience.
Now based in Palm Beach County, South Florida, Cecil earned his B.F.A. in 2012 from Salisbury University and has since honed his craft through residencies and collaborations with highly esteemed institutions including Corning, PGC, and the Chrysler Museum. His career has been further enriched by awards such as the Imagine Museum’s Artist of the Future Award and his role as a presenter at the Glass Art Society’s national conference.
Cecil’s work is deeply rooted in themes of sustainability, growth, and legacy. His celebrated “Bonsai Series” employs hot glass techniques—blowing, sculpting, fusing—to craft delicate tree-like sculptures that embody balance and emergent vitality. Each bonsai, anchored on a colored stone (blue for spirituality, red for compassion, gold for prosperity), symbolizes the foundations from which one grows and eventually supports the next generation.
This exhibition is a compelling exploration of the fluid nature of transformation—expressed through Cecil’s evocative glass sculptures.
