The City of Elgin and the Elgin Short Film Festival (ESFF) committee proudly announces the 17th Annual Elgin Short Film Festival, set for September 20, 2025 Filmmakers from around the globe are invited to showcase their cinematic talent in this on one-of-a-kind festival, which attracts entries from the US, Canada, Spain, South Korea and beyond.Starting April 1, 2025, filmmakers may submit their short films (20 minutes or less, including credits) to compete for prizes in this year’s festival. Whether the film is a heartwarming story, a thrilling adventure, or a thought-provoking animation, all creative submissions across genres are encouraged as long as they adhere to the official rules. This year’s festival promises to be a spectacular event with the excitement of audience participation - audience votes will count!
What to Expect at ESFF 2025?
• Two Categories: Live Action and Animation
• Next In Finalists: Each category will feature five potential finalists, with the top two, as voted on by the selection committee, making the finals. The next three films in each category will have a chance to compete for a coveted spot in the finals during the Elgin Fringe Festival on September 11 and 12. elginfringefestival.com
• Inclusive Submissions: The ESFF welcomes films rated up to the equivalent of an MPAA ‘R’ rating.
• Red-Carpet Glamor: Top Finalists will be treated to a red-carpet arrival at The Hemmens Cultural Center, where their films will be showcased on screen at the 1,200-seat theater.
• Trophies and Cash Prizes: The top three films compete for trophies and cash prizes up to $1,000.
Important Dates
• Submit films by August 1, 2025, for just a $40 fee
• All entries must be submitted by August 22, 2025, for a $50 fee
