HEIKI: Toronto-based Canadian electronic music veteran Heiki Sillaste first made his mark with Digital Poodle, a cult EBM project that he began in 1988, going on to release several albums, along with a string of addictive, industrial dancefloor anthems, including “Work Terminal” and “Soul Crush,” which each received the reissue/remix treatment via a pair of 12”s on Suction in 2015, and 2017, respectively. Like many EBM producers in the ‘90s, Heiki found himself losing interest in that increasingly stagnant scene, and quickly shifted his musical focus towards the emerging techno/rave/ambient scene. Over the years, he’s delved into everything from dub techno, to drum and bass, to ambient drone, but for the past few years he’s been diving deep into hardware analog electro and acid. “Valley Beyond” (suction060) is the result of nearly a decade perfecting his acid/electro sound, finding Heiki at the top of his game.

NINECHECKER: Ninechecker lives in Toronto in his small studio and produces his own flavour of Electro, with dashes of ‘97 Jungle, Bleep Techno, Miami Bass booms, broken drum machines and atmospheric sauce from his secret-sauce bottle. He’s released on Varial Records, Zodiac Wax, Orson and Brokntoys. You might also catch his live hardware set currently being road-tested around Toronto and its neighbouring cities. Electro-heads take note.

DAVE ROUT:
A fixture in the electronic music scene since the mid 80s, Dave Rout has had more than a few music projects under his belt.
Datafreq, Techniques Berlin, !Bang Elektronika, Infor/Mental, Laundromat, The Beautiful Spies, and Autopanik to name a few.
He’s had the privilege to be a part of legendary Canadian synth pop band Rational Youth, both recording with them and playing shows in Germany, Sweden, and England, as well as here in Toronto.
He’s also recorded with Images in Vogue and had the side project Jetlag with Darrin Huss from Psyche.
Dave started datafreq in 2002 initially as a DJ project, spinning new wave records while bringing vintage handheld video games into the mix. He performed at a few of the underground Electric Workers parties in Toronto. Soon after brought the purchase of a vocoder and Dave took datafreq out as live project, playing shows that same year at Nasa Dance Bar and the El Mocambo in Toronto, and performing at Sonar in Vancouver (with Joe Vizvary from Images in Vogue on synths), as well as an opening DJ for the IIV Reunion that same year. In 2006 he was signed to German label Das Drehmoment, who released his debut album ‘Fun for the whole Family”.
He played in Berlin that year for the album release party, which started an amazing friendship with the label, not only having tracks released on label vinyl compilations, but returning to Germany to perform as Datafreq many times since then, with his last show in Germany at the “It is not happening” experimental music festival in Nuremberg in 2018.
He continued his Datafreq live PA in 2022, and played a 20th anniversary and final show in Toronto in Jun 2024.
2024 also brought the new Techniques Berlin record on Mecanica, the new Datafreq 12” on Bosconi, and the upcoming !Bang Elektronika record on a German label soon to be announced.
He was a frequent DJ in the front room at Nocturne in Toronto from the mid 2000s up to its closing in 2018.
Encompassing genres from 60s Jamaican ska, to minimal synth, thru new wave and post-punk, to industrial, he has a passion for music and loves to share it with others.
