About this Event
'Electro Rap: Science Fiction, Fantasy and Reality in the Circuitry of Hip Hop' Book Launch
Introduced by Dr Sana Murrani (author of 'Rupturing Architecture'), Dr Adam de Paor-Evans speaks on his latest book, a critical unpacking of the electro rap era (1983-7) which links science and speculative fiction, contextual urban relalities, and futuristic voyaging through a web of well-known and under-the-radar electro rap recordings. Don't miss this original take on the lost values of electro rap and its previously unexplored relationship to contemporary hip hop.
.
Dr Adam de Paor-Evans is Fellow at University of Plymouth, having previously help the post of Reader in Ethnomusicology and Spatio-material Culture at UCLan. He has published widely on the intersections of spatio-material theory, architectonics, and ethnomusicology. His previous monograph, Provincial Headz: British Hip Hop and Critical Regionalism (2020), was nominated for the IASPM Book Prize 2021. He also leads the research lab Rhythm Obscura: Revealing Hidden Histories Through Ethnomusicology, Practice Research and Material Culture which is engaged in a range of writing practice work from performance and composition to autotheoretic and traditional academic outputs.
.
Dr Sana Murrani is Associate Professor in Spatial Practice with a background in architecture and urban design. Her research interests are rooted in the interdisciplinarity of spatial justice, informed by a creative, place-based research practice centred on built, destroyed, and imagined geographies of war, violence and displacement.
